Center Director Vanessa Wyche opened the ceremony with a message of thanks to friends and family members in the audience, noting that their support and patience enabled the honorees’ achievements.

“The awards we present today are a representation and recognition of all the amazing and phenomenal contributions our workforce executes on a regular basis,” she said. “This past year was exceptionally busy in our workloads, but each of you has demonstrated an extraordinary level of professionalism contributing to our mission success. It’s through your great efforts that we were able to accomplish the things that we’re going to be celebrating today.”

Wyche and Associate Director for Vision and Strategy Douglas Terrier presented awards in six categories:

  • JSC Director's Excellence Award: Recognizes honorees as the top in their field or category at Johnson.
  • JSC Director's Innovation Award and JSC Director’s Innovation Group Achievement Award: Recognizes individuals or teams who have shown innovation through the development or implementation of positive changes in the operations or the programs of NASA or Johnson and in business practices, science, technology, engineering, medicine, and education within the center.
  • United States Patent Recognition: Celebrates employees who obtain a U.S. patent.
  • JSC Director's ERG Leadership Recognition: Acknowledges the leaders of Johnson’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and their efforts to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • JSC Director's Commendation Award: Recognizes civil servants for significant achievements or exceptional service over several years that have impacted the center.

Awards were also presented to recipients of NASA’s 2023 Agency Honor Awards who were unable to attend that program’s spring ceremony.
